Take Action

Artists and culture keepers shape this place we call home. In return, we have a responsibility to help sustain them. The Culture Keepers invites each of us to ask: how are we tending to the culture that makes the Bay Area a place we love?

This initiative invites everyone – from everyday Bay Area people, including philanthropists and people with institutional influence — to learn from these practices and to invest in healthy and sustained cultural practices and spaces across the Bay Area. If you cherish the Bay Area’s creativity, vibrancy, and soul, The Culture Keepers is an invitation to stand in right relationship with the artists and culture keepers who make that possible.

Join a powerful choir of voices reimagining what is possible in this region. We invite you to see the culture keepers in your midst; recognize their work as a balm and infrastructure; and invest deeply and for the long term, as an act of cultural repair.

For donors, large cultural institutions, institutional philanthropy, non profit organizations, the public sector, and individuals:

  • Invest deeply in the cultural and non profit sector with multiyear general operating support grants and to capital campaigns that contribute permanency and community ownership of land and space
  • Invest in artists from diverse backgrounds and make the barriers for entry as accessible as possible
  • Become a donor to a local cultural or movement organization
  • Invest in the culture keepers profiled and in others in our communities
  • Buy art!

The Culture Keepers

The Culture Keepers exists because the artists, culture keepers, and cultural organizations who sustain the Bay Area’s soul deserve to be seen and supported at the scale of their impact. In service to the cultural sector, we uplift the role of artists and culture keepers in making the Bay Area and our world a place we want to live and thrive in.
