Across the Bay Area, cultural and movement organizations hold our communities together. They are hubs where artists, culture keepers, and neighbors come to gather, dream, heal, and create. They provide not only space and resources, but also belonging, helping sustain the creative and cultural work that defines our region’s identity and resilience.
On this page, we offer you a glimpse into the history and impact of two local organizations. This cycle, we are specifically featuring Urban Peace Movement and Galería de la Raza. Together, we are illustrating the value and practice of their work and spotlighting the people who make that work possible.
Each organization has selected a set of Culture Keepers who embody the spirit of their community and reflect what culture means in practice: rootedness, creativity, care, and transformation.
Our hope is that by sharing these stories, we not only celebrate these anchor organizations and their culture keepers, but also help secure the recognition and resourcing they deserve. Culture keeping requires care and investment, and through this work, we aim to honor and strengthen the ecosystem that sustains it.
We invite you to meet the anchor organizations and the culture keepers they’ve chosen to celebrate, and to see how their collective work continues to shape what’s next for the Bay Area.
