Culture Keeper Bio

“How do you create balance, hope, or faith where there is none?” (Oakland Magazine) Adimu “WolfHawkJaguar” Madyun’s work is a spiritual and creative response to struggle. A multi-disciplinary artist and healer from Oakland, CA, Adimu channels African traditions, social justice and raw emotion into art that uplifts. One of his many powerful films, Tent City explores homelessness and mental illness with compassion, while his music—rooted in Orisa, hip hop, reggae and rhythm & blues—calls listeners back to purpose. He is a Priest of Ogun in the traditional African spiritual practice of Ifa, initiated in Oyo, Nigeria. As a core actor in Oakland’s oldest African American theatre troupe, The Lower Bottom Playaz, Adimu performed in August Wilson’s 10 Play American Century Cycle. As the leader of DetermiNation, a healing circle for young Black men impacted by the carceral system founded by Urban Peace Movement (@urbanpeace510) and United Roots, he leads through presence – listening deeply, transforming pain into purpose, and creating beauty where others see despair.
